What is Camp Spotlight?
Welcome to Imagine Theatre’s 2026 Camp Spotlight, our first annual overnight musical theatre camp for youth ages 12-17!
The heart of Camp Spotlight is for youth to grow in skill, character, and community.
SKILL: Camp Spotlight is a musical theatre camp rooted in providing youth opportunities
to grow in their abilities. This looks like youth being placed in skill-based ensembles,
getting to dive deep into their chosen morning electives, and more!
CHARACTER: Going to an overnight camp is a core experience for many youth, as it
provides many opportunities for youth to grow life skills. This includes growing in:
-
Confidence & Independence: Youth are responsible for their schedule, making their own choices regarding electives, trying new activities, etc.
-
Resiliency & Problem-Solving: While adults are always around for support, guidance, and mentorship, there are plenty of opportunities for youth to strengthen their social-emotional skills as it pertains to interpersonal relationships, living in a community with people who are different from us, etc.
-
Communication & Empathy: At camp, youth can develop skills in how to express themselves clearly and respectfully, whether they’re resolving a bunk conflict or giving feedback in a team setting. Youth will listen actively, tuning into how others feel and what they need. Of course, staff model healthy communication and offer coaching in the moment, helping campers navigate emotions and social dynamics in real time.
-
Screen-Free Living: Youth can find a different rhythm of life, free from screens and notifications, where face-to-face conversations and hands-on experiences take center stage.
COMMUNITY: Camp Spotlight provides youth a variety of opportunities to be in multiple
communities - including interest-based, skill-based, and age-based communities! There
are also a variety of times throughout the week when all the campers will be together.
Whether it is small groups or ensembles, youth will have a wide variety of opportunities
to dive deeper into community together.
Whether this is your first time at an overnight camp or something that is always a part
of your summer traditions, we could not be more excited to have you at Camp Spotlight!
Please read the following info and expectations, and reach out to us with any questions
you may have.

Best,
Alec Martinez

Scholarships are granted to families who demonstrate a strong financial need and who would be otherwise unable to participate in our classes. Scholarships can range from partial, to full. The exact amount of the scholarship is at the discretion of Imagine Theatre, though applicants are asked which scholarship level they would like to be considered for in the application process. Due to the high costs of running Camp Spotlight, a limited amount of scholarship funds are available.

Gathering Times & Games:
-
All Students & Staff will gather each morning to set the daily rhythms, remind youth of expectations, give any necessary announcements, etc. Students & Staff will also gather each evening to prepare for the night, reflect on the day, sing songs, roast smores, and more!
-
In the late morning, campers will participate in games led by our Camp Interns. Games may include water-based games, relay games, team games, obstacle courses, etc.

Skill-Based Ensembles:
-
On the first day of camp, youth will learn a dance-combo all together. Artistic Staff will observe youth during this time to assign students into 3-4 skill-based ensembles. These ensembles will learn 1-2 well-known Musical Theatre Ensemble Numbers. These ensembles will have 8-14 youth each, and will be taught by high-skilled choreographers with the goal of further developing the youth’s skills as a group. Youth will also spend time with CampSpotlight’s Music Director to learn and rehearse the vocals of their song.

Afternoon Electives:
-
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, youth will choose an elective based on their interests. The goal of this opportunity is to not only allow youth to dive into topics of their choice but also allow them to foster relationships with other youth who have common interests.
-
As shared above…
-
Youth will select their elective preferences using rank-choice. Electives will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Elective determinations will be emailed out July 1st, 2026 in our One-Month Until Camp Email.
-
Elective options may include: Costuming, Shakespeare, Stage Combat, Dance Conditioning, Jazz Dance, Improv, Physical Comedy, Acapella Signing, etc.
-

Breaks & Student Choice Time: Camp is jam packed with tons of fun and physical activities, which makes rest time very important! Of course throughout the day there wil be bathroom & shorter rest breaks, but during the middle of the day youth have a dedicated 2.5hrs to relax and participate in activities of their choice with a little less structure. During this time, youth can:
-
Get Their Mail: See more about mail below.
-
Swim: The Mollala retreat center has a designated, roped-off swimming area along the Mollala River. Camp Spotlight will hire professional lifeguards to supervise youth in the water. 1-2 Camp Staff will also be within the vicinity to supervise the youth and provide support. To ensure safety, only 25 swimmers will be allowed in the water per lifeguard. Depending on the total number of campers, Campspotlight will have 1-2 Lifeguards. Swimming will only be an option on Tuesday and Thursday. Due to the range of ages and personal values, we ask that bathingsuits be family-friendly. (No Speedos or bikinis.)
-
Rest: Youth may use this time to relax in their dorm, in the lounge(s), outside, etc.
-
Nature: Camp has a variety of ways youth can connect with nature, including trails, gardens, the waterfront, etc.
-
Games: Camp has a covered sports court (gaga ball, basketball, tennis, pickleball, etc.) and a games room (pool, hoop shoot, air hockey, etc.)

Wind-Down: After a long day, dedicated time and space to prepare for the night is very much needed! This is a great time for youth to take a shower, drink some tea, and if desired, call-home.

Electronics & Communications:
Camp is a no-electronics zone for youth. No tablets or gaming devices are allowed. Phones & Smart Watches may be permissible in limited circumstances - read more below.
Note: Most cell-providers do not have coverage where the camp is located, or coverage is inconsistent, meaning the use of cell phones as the primary means of communication is unrealistic. Staff & Interns will primarily use walkie-talkies to communicate while on camp, but may use their phones to play music, take pictures to share later, or make an emergency phone call. Otherwise, they are also expected to keep their electronics away.

-
Phones (Non-Medical): We know that for some youth and families, not having access to a phone may cause anxiety, especially if this is the first sleep-away experience. To help mitigate anxiety, youth may bring their phones to camp and turn them in at check-in. Each day, except Friday, there will be one 15-minute period during the evening wind-down when youth may check out their phones solely to call guardians and check in. During phone calls, youth must remain in the adult's sight and should not be playing games, recording videos, etc. Keep in mind that coverage is spotty, but youth may still connect to the camp's Wi-Fi. Students may also choose to leave their phones at home and use the camp's landline to call guardians.
-
Phones (Medical) - Youth who use their phone for medical purposes (e.g., glucose tracking) will be permitted to keep their phone on their person, but must NOT use it for any other purpose except calling during the permitted times. Use of the phone in any other way may result in the camper being removed from camp.
-
Smartwatches: Cell-enabled, phone-connected, or camera-equipped smartwatches are not allowed. Smartwatches may be used (with phones disconnected/wifi off) for time-keeping, personal alarms, and health tracking. If a camper is using a smartwatch in a non-permitted way (checking texts, emails, taking pictures, calling, etc.) the watch will be confiscated, or the camper may be removed from camp.
Camp Spaces

Main Lodge: The main lodge is two floors.
-
After entering the Lodge, just off the lobby is the commercial kitchen, the Camp landline, and the location of our Camp Health Coordinator and Mail service.
-
The West Wing of the Lodge is home to the main bathrooms & shower facilities.
-
The East Wing of the Lodge is the large dining hall/rehearsal room, with multiple exits to the large outdoor dining area off the back of the Lodge.
-
Upstairs of the Lodge are two large dorms and two medium dorms.
Dorms: Located in the Main Lodge.
-
There are 2-3 large sleeping quarters (dorms) at camp that each have 15-30 beds in bunks. Campers will be assigned to a space based on their gender identity.
-
Campers may indicate on their Pre-Camp form whom they would like to be bunked with and whether they prefer a top or bottom bunk. Bunk preferences will be used when assigning bunks, but are not guaranteed.
-
There will be no adults sleeping in the rooms with the youth. 2 adult supervisors on Night-Duty will be stationed just outside of the rooms in the common area. These adults will do sporadic checks and ensure campers sleep safely and soundly. All other adults have dedicated sleeping quarters in other buildings.
-
If there is a need (medical, safety, etc.) for a camper to have a separate sleeping area with fewer youth, that may be arranged. Please email campspotlight@imaginetheatre.org with your request or questions.
Other Buildings: There are three A-Frame style buildings on Campus.
-
The Duplex - Right next to the sports court is the “Duplex”, dedicated Intern/Staff Housing
-
Center House - The “Center House” is also dedicated to staff housing.
-
Rehearsal House - The “Rehearsal House” main floor is a large open space that will be used for rehearsals & group activities. The upstairs level, separate exterior entrance, is the Camp Director’s Apt.
Sports Court & Recreation:
-
A covered sports court with sports equipment is located right next to the Main Lodge!
-
Campers can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including sand volleyball, horseshoes, two large sports fields, a nature trail, an agility course, disc golf, 9-square, gaga ball, and a game room.
Swim:
The Mollala retreat center has a designated, roped-off swimming area along
the Molalla River. Camp Spotlight will hire professional lifeguards to supervise
youth in the water. 1-2 Camp Staff will also be within the vicinity to supervise
the youth and provide support. To ensure safety, only 25 swimmers will be
allowed in the water per lifeguard. Depending on the total number of campers,
Camp Spotlight will have 1-2 Lifeguards. Swimming will only be an option
on Tuesday and Thursday. Due to the range of ages and personal values,
we ask that bathing suits be family-friendly. (No Speedos or bikinis.)

Camp Services
Health:
Student health is a top priority. In addition to all Camp Staff being certified in basic first aid and CPR, Camp Spotlight will have a dedicated on-site Camp Health Coordinator (CHC) and a 24hr on-call RN. The CHC will be responsible for administering first aid, documenting incidents, administering follow-up care, communicating with families, and, if necessary, communicating with emergency personnel. Meticulous documentation will be kept of all incidents the CHC responds to, and when youth visit their office.
How can I report my youth’s medical/health needs/history? The Pre-Camp form will request information regarding camper health, including health history, prescriptions, etc. The CHC will follow up with families/guardians, specifically with any questions to determine a specific care plan for the camper while at camp. During check-in, the CHC will also have a dedicated table for turning in medication, where families may check in with the CHC to share any other health information.
What is reported home: During check-out, families will receive a Health/Incident report for their youth. This report will indicate when and why they visited the CHC as well as outline any other incidents that occur at camp - misuse of electronics, language, etc. A call home will be made when a health incident cannot be simply mitigated with a small bandage (small cuts, etc.) or 30 minutes of ice (twisted ankle).
When are emergency services called? During all health incidents, the CHC and Camp Director will work closely together to ensure camper safety. During events that require emergency services, all efforts will be made to call guardians first, but will be determined by the type of incident and condition of the student.
-
Immediate Calls to Emergency Services, followed by an immediate call to guardians.
-
Clear signs of respiratory or cardiac arrest and subsequent use of CPR
-
Use of Emergency medications that require emergency services after use (seizures, etc.)
-
-
Immediate call to guardians, then possibly Emergency Services (Depending on severity and camper condition)
-
Breaks/Fractures
-
Head injuries
-
Loss of consciousness
-
Open lacerations, etc.
-
What medications are administered?
-
Over-the-counter meds: On the Pre-Camp registration form, families may indicate if their youth may be given Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Tums, Claritin, cough drops, or Benadryl by the CHC. These would be administered in accordance with the manufacturers/FDA guidelines and would be noted in the students Health/Incident report.
-
Prescribed Medication: Regular or Emergency (EpiPen, Inhalers, as-needed meds, daily meds, etc.)
-
Students who take prescription medications should bring their medicine to Camp in its original packaging inside a ziplock bag labeled with the student’s name, medication name, dosage directions, and the name and phone number of the prescribing physician. Students are required to turn in all medication to the CHC on the first day and are expected to go to the CHC’s office as needed to receive their medication. Remaining medication will be available for pick-up at the time of check-out.
-
If able, please pack an extra dose, or two, of medication (specifically those in pill form) in case it gets dropped, lost, etc.
-
Mail:
Getting “mail’ while at camp can be such a special memory and a highlight of the day for many youth! “Mail” could be a sweet card, a simple present, a small care package with their favorite candy, a note from a sibling, etc. Nothing extravagant is needed to make the memory special - for most, the act of receiving mail marked for them is thrilling by itself! Mail will be passed out daily (Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday) at the beginning of the Break Time.

So, how do you “send” mail? Sending mail through the physical postal service will not be realistic, so to participate in this fun activity you will want to bring your “mail”, marked for your youth, and the day you want it given to them (Tuesday, Wednesday, &/or Thursday), and drop it off during check-in in the dedicated “Mail” bin. Consider finding a short moment to drop off your student’s mail in secrecy to make it extra fun.
Preparing For, & Arriving At, Camp
Getting To Camp: Imagine Theatre Camp Spotlight is held at Molalla Retreat Center (36208 S Molalla Forest Rd, Molalla, OR 97038)

Frequently Asked Questions
How can my student get the most out of camp?
Students should get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and make healthy meal choices. Parents and guardians can prepare their child before arriving by reminding them that camp is a place to have new experiences and challenges. A big part of the camp experience is learning to have success in a new and different setting. It helps to arrive with an open mind and a positive attitude. We have found that students are most successful when given space from home and cell phone/screen use so that they are able to be present in their learning and creativity.

What if my student is homesick?
It is not unusual for students of all ages to miss home and family in the first few days of camp, especially if it is a student’s first extended time away from home. Camp staff are trained to recognize homesickness and work especially hard to keep students busy and engaged in the camp atmosphere. When homesick campers are able to engage with new friends and activities at camp, they discover that camp is fun and safe, providing them with a new, profound sense of independence and discovery. We recommend that parents allow their child to work through homesickness with limited contact with home (family/friends), so it is easier to engage in the camp environment. If a student is showing more extreme signs of homesickness, Camp Staff will call guardians to discuss ways to best support the student. In very limited circumstances, a guardian may be allowed to come to camp to eat lunch with the student.

Can students request bunkmates for camp?
Campers may submit the name of 1-2 friends on the bunkmate request portion of the Pre-Camp Form. Camp Spotlight honors roommate requests where possible, but they are not guaranteed.

What if my student has dietary restrictions?
Our dining hall offers a variety of healthy choices at all meals. Camp Spotlight is able to accommodate most dietary restrictions. Be sure to include any dietary restrictions and allergies during the initial registration and list it again on the Pre-Camp form, as this allows our staff to plan for the summer. If you are concerned about your child’s dietary restrictions at camp, please contact the Imagine team at campspotlight@imaginetheatre.org.

What kind of adult supervision do students have?
The primary responsibility of all camp staff is the safety and well-being of each student. The Staff/Intern to camper ratio is likely to be around 1:6 but would be no more than 1:10. During the day, campers are always near staff members, and during the night, there are at least two staff members on duty just outside the dorms. Attendance is taken each rehearsal/class time, as well as during meals.

Camp Spotlight is staffed only by Imagine Theatre staff and professional Teaching Artists known to the Imagine Community. This requirement means that all Camp Staff have worked with Imagine in some capacity within the last few years. This both protects and gives youth who have participated in other Imagine programming a deeper sense of community.
Camp Spotlight will also have a limited number of Camp Interns for those aged 18-19. Interns will collaborate with and support Teaching Artists with the Skill-based ensembles, support the kitchen staff, and lead daily games.

All Camp Staff & Interns receive multiple days’ worth of training prior to camp starting. Training topics include conflict resolution, social-emotional well-being, youth-development & wellness indicators (bullying, othering, abuse, etc.), behavior management, and general program skills.

The interns are supervised by our highly experienced Camp Staff & teaching Artists. Interns are assigned to support specific classes, lead games, assist at meals, etc. Interns have their own sleeping quarters in a separate building and are not permitted on the dorm-level of the main lodge unless accompanied by a Staff person.

All Camp Staff will be trained & certified in basic first aid & CPR.

*Note: A certified lifeguard, who is not known to the Imagine community, will be supervising the swimming zone during allowed swim times. 1-2 Camp Spotlight Staff will also be in the swimming zone to supervise behavior.
