Artistic and Leadership Team
A Note About Artistic Direction For Nemo Jr.:
"Somewhere, beyond the sea", I can still hear the first trailer for Finding Nemo in my head when I think about the story. A story about family and friendship, adventure and thrills, and a lesson of never stop doubting yourself against the odds. All of these things have made the story of "Finding Nemo" last for years, and it is my hope to bring the joys and thrills to life with a cast of enthusiastic performers. We will go on a fabulous undersea adventure together, the kind of which will never be forgotten! - Louis Kruse, Director
Note: Youth ages 8-18 are encouraged to join us! Imagine's new Studio program prioritizes offering artistic programming in new ways. For Finding Nemo Jr, this will look like prioritizing youth ages 10-15 for leading/featured roles. Through out the year in our MainStage program it is likely that older students, ages 15+ get most of the leading roles due to the demands of the program. We are excited to have Finding Nemo Jr. prioritize giving younger youth the experience of a lead/featured role.

General Requirements, Health/Safety & Committee Expectations (Fees, Show Committees, etc.)
Requirements To Be In The Show
- Age: This production is open to actors ages 7 & 8-18 (Must turn 8 before auditions. Those that are 7 may audition for an ensemble role if they previously have successfully been a part of an Imagine Theatre Youth Camp.)
- Rehearsals/Conflicts: Families will be given the opportunity to declare any rehearsal conflicts prior to the cast list going out. After that, any new conflict must be approved by the Director (aside from sickness, family emergencies, etc.) Missing rehearsals that are not excused may result in less stage time and will be taken into consideration for future shows. It is considered gross negligence if students/families are found to purposefully not disclose conflicts, lie about reason for absence, or end up skipping rehearsals multiple times when not excused. This may result in roles being re-cast.
- Required Dates: Students may not miss tech week, or any productions. Any disclosed conflicts on those dates will result in not being cast. If a non-excused absence occurs during these dates, role may be recast.
- Other Dates: It is strongly suggested to not miss rehearsals the weekend prior to tech week as those rehearsals are typically run-throughs. Missing these dates may impact casting. It is also strongly suggested to not miss Costume Parade, as in-costume photos are taken for publicity and merchandise. Missing this date will likely result in your photo not being included in some publicity/merchandise as there is not time after the fact to coordinate this.
- Committee Requirement: Each cast member must have one volunteer (typically a parent or guardian) join a show committee. See more below.
- Note: Per Imagine policy, it is assumed students will accept any role they are given. As an educational organization, we are focused on placing students in roles that will encourage growth. With that being said, Imagine does not refund class costs due to casting drops.
If you have questions about your student’s ability to participate in a production please contact [email protected].
Fees/Cost
- Fee: $150 per student.
- What Do We Get With The Production Fee? A show sticker, digital link to any rehearsal/cast/show photos taken, and 1 comp (free) ticket. (Max of 3 comp tickets per family unit)
- Optional Items For Purchase: When paying for the production fee, cast members are given the opportunity to purchase a show shirt (not required), and other additional items (Show Posters, digital recording, show button, etc.). Cost for these optional items listed here.
- Other Costs: Students/families should be prepared to have/provide:
- A simple base layer of clothing that will be under their costumes (Costumes are provide. Generic clothing items, like a t-shirt, may be requested from home.)
- Generic socks. (Specialty socks provided.)
- Appropriately sized Basic character & jazz shoes. (Specialty shoes will be provided)
- Generic make-up if required (Specialty make-up and training provided if required)
- *Please let us know if you do not have any of these items and we will happily work with you to find a solution.
- Scholarships: Scholarships are available for any Imagine Theatre program, including production fees. View our Scholarship Guidance document, and the required steps, here!
- What is a Production Fee For? Production Fees are in place to assist in covering the expenses of putting on a show. For additional information on Production Fees, see our General Information.
Parent/Guardian Show Committees Requirement
Imagine Theatre cast member's are expected to have one adult (typically a parent, relative, or guardian) participate in a Show Committee(s). The cast member may not be their own representative. Shows take lots of work, plus show committees are a fun way to meet other families and bond as a community!
More information about the show and committees will be discussed at the required committee meeting. Committee members will communicate their schedule and skills for committee placement consideration.
Read about volunteer/parent/guardian involvement expectations here
*Note some info in this document may reference students, as it is the document used for our youth theatre programs. Basic info still applies.

Audition, Callbacks, & Casting (How to Sign Up & What to Expect)
How to Audition:
What Are Auditions & Callbacks Like?
The audition process is a fun and integral part of the production! We understand that auditions can feel stressful, but everyone you see is your biggest cheerleader! When you thrive, we thrive.
- Fill out the form - Here.
- Sign up for an audition slot - Here. (Each 20-minute audition time will have space for 7 auditioners. Please come 15 minutes early to ensure you are checked in and have proper paperwork completed. You may bring someone with you into your audition time as a support person.) Audition slots and sign-ups close on March 30th at 12am.
- Prepare A Song with Music: Please come prepared to sing 1 minute of a musical-theatre-show song, not from the show being auditioned for, with a backing track. Bring your own accompaniment (instrumental/karaoke, no vocals) on a phone, or tablet and we will play it for your turn. If you are using a phone, please have the appropriate dongle to connect to a speaker.

The audition process is a fun and integral part of the production! We understand that auditions can feel stressful, but everyone you see is your biggest cheerleader! When you thrive, we thrive.
- WHEN ARRIVING: When you arrive for auditions, you will check in and make sure all your information is in order. You will have your headshot taken and receive any additional information. One adult may accompany each student into the audition room as moral support.
- AUDITIONING: You and seven other auditioners, along with their support people, will go into the audition room as a group. When it is your turn to perform your song, you will be called up. Hand your accompaniment device to the audio person cued up to the spot you want to begin singing. Stand in front of the artistic team and they will let you know when you may begin. When prompted, “slate”, which means introduce yourself by name and age, then tell us which song selection you have chosen. Then you will indicate for the audio person to begin your song and you can sing. When you have completed, say, “Thank you.” You will get to watch five other students audition, so please show encouragement by staying engaged and applauding when appropriate.
- CALLBACKS: Callbacks will be requested at the discretion of the Artistic Team. If you are called back, you will receive notice before 11pm on Monday, March 31st. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, April 1st from 6-8pm at the Grange. You will be notified if you are to attend the entire time, or just a portion thereof. If you are NOT called back, that does not mean you are not getting considered for a part. Being “called back” simply means the directors would like to see you read/perform something specific. For this production, callbacks will consist of a dance, music, and cold readings from the script.
- The Cast List will be sent out via email & posted in the shared Google Classroom on Wednesday April 2nd at 6pm. As an educational opportunity we assume all students accept their role. The cast list will also be shared on social media that evening.
- The cast size of this show is capped at 30 due to space at the performance facility.
- Imagine Theatre values diversity on our stage and in our theater. In casting, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. We aim to cast respectfully and appropriately to all cultures and identities.
