ABOUT
In 2023 the U.S. Surgeon General released a report titled “Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation”. The report outlined why social connections matter, health implications of loneliness and isolation, and described how one person’s isolation leads to declines in the wider community. The report called on community-based organizations, like Imagine Theatre, to “create opportunities and spaces for inclusive social connection” and to provide programming that deepens one’s connection to community.

We must take meaningful action to “extend the table” so that everyone has a place to belong.
The arts have always been a way for communities to build connection, share values, communicate stories, and deepen relationships. Together, we can cultivate belonging and accessibility for all youth.

Imagine’s “Cultivating Accessibility & Fostering Community” Campaign is one part of our response to this call.
Our Goals: During our Year-End-Giving season, we aim to raise $20K to:
- Reduce & remove barriers that keep youth & families from accessing Imagine’s programing & performing arts education.
- Offer programming that supports the fostering of community, deepening of relationships, and reduction of loneliness.
Funds raised during our 2023 End-of-Year Campaign will go towards:
- $4.5K towards Scholarships (We granted over $4K in scholarships during 2023.)
- $5K for ASL interpreted performances. (We aim to have each show run have at least one ASL interpreted performance starting 2024.)
- $5K in dedicated funds for Program Expansion. (During 2024 we want to greatly increase the number of free community events, develop a youth leadership/community program, and offer more ways to deepen belonging.)
- $5K towards 8 microphones (Microphones increase the accessibility of shows by allowing more patrons to hear the action and more students to be heard.)
- $500 towards Sensory Kits (Sensory Kits increase accessibility by helping to cultivate a welcoming environment for all who attend our performances and participate in rehearsals. Kits may included sensory headphones, fidgets, quiet activities, and more!)
