What does Christ-centered mean?
Imagine Theatre is not a faith-based organization - we are not a part of a denomination or a singular church/faith group. Imagine Theatre is also not a church - we are not here to inform others of what to believe, how to believe, or to critique anyones faith journey. Imagine Theatre is a Christ-centered organization, which means we believe in the story of God, we believe in His call for justice and to love others well. What does the Imagine Theatre community feel like?
The Imagine Theatre Community is composed of those attending a wide variety of Churches (Non-denominational, Covenant, United Methodist, Church of Latter Day Saints, Catholic, etc.) and also includes people who identify as non-Believers, Believers who do not attend a physical church, etc. Because of this vast diversity, our community is one that focuses on relationships and love. Doing theatre forces one another to be in close community when acting/performing - this type of community is built on trust and acceptance. It's okay if not everyone believes the exact same thing - but when at Imagine the goal is to honor faith and dive deep into the arts. We asked people in our community "What does Imagine feel like?":
How does faith play a role in Imagine programming?
General Organization - In the day to day, faith looks like a prayer before meetings/events, discussions on biblical integration, etc. Note on prayer: We do not require everyone to participate in prayers, we ask that those refraining from prayers be respectful of the space and of those around them. Classes - Faith is integrated into our classes session through a dedicated character trait/fruit of the Spirit each term. The character trait/fruit of the spirit is then discussed/integrated into the 15minute break time during classes. This could look like a short discussion using scripture as references, a related game, a student sharing their thoughts/impressions, etc. Class curriculum its self does not reference faith, and Teaching Artists are not required to be people of faith. Class time is for focusing on art making. Camps/Workshops - Faith integration in camps/workshops may be similar to our classes. Camp biblical integration may vary depending on what Churches we are partnering with to offer the camp, but are still focused on character traits/fruits of the Sprit but may include having a guest preacher/speaker come in to learn more. Productions - Productions/shows offer a great way to talk/learn about hard topics (think Miss Hannigan and her drinking in Annie, etc.) - they place that topic within a context that makes it easier for both students and patrons to understand. During the rehearsal process Imagine's Artistic Team members may use faith to frame these topics - in the example of Annie, faith may be used to affirm that what Miss Hannigan is doing is not okay in any way, and that the way Daddy Warbucks loves Annie for who she is is similar to the way God love us as we are. |

Our Statement of Faith
Participation in Imagine Theatre is open to people from different faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs.
We affirm that we are a Christ-centered organization with the following as the foundation of our operations: We believe in the Story of God. A story that begins with His love as the source of all life; whose love was given a human face in Jesus of Nazareth; whose love was crucified on a Roman cross by the evil that enslaves us; whose love defeated evil and death; and whose love became our glorious promise of freedom. Our lives are subplots in this grand Story of God. In every story we tell, there is a thread of truth that reflects His love in the life, death, and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ. We aspire to equip lifelong patrons of the arts in an environment of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; the fruits of being led by His Spirit. As such, we believe that we experience God in our performances, in our life stories, in the way we see the world, and how we imagine the future. |
